1. Hello Juan, Greetings from Assam, North-east India. First of all let
me ask you about the experiences of being here in this part of region.
Any special attachments related to 3rd Brahmaputra Literary Festival
and the panels?
✒ It was an amazing experience. Enriching, warm, enjoyable. One of the
literary festivals I have most enjoyed throughout my life. I hope that
argentinean presence grows every year.
2.Tell us about your childhood days and education?
✒There is nothing really interesting to tell you. Except this: I
discovered literature and reading in my holidays with my parents, where
there was no TV set. The absence of TV during long periods of time was
the most important feature of my childhood years.
3. What is your favourite book/script? and Why? If any?
✒I don’t have any because I don’t like the concept of “favourite”. How
am I supposed to rank all the books I’ve read? The idea of ranking and
the idea of favourite are harmful to art. This is not a competition,
although sometimes it may seem like one.
4. Your first novel The Fourteen Notebooks received wide critical
acclaim and became a sales success.What was the inspiration behind it?
✒Most of my writing inspiration comes from my own life, which I then
fictionalize. It is all fiction, but it has its roots in real life.
5. What is your work schedule like when you're writing?
✒Chaotic. Ever-changing. I write whenever I can. I don’t have a method
or a schedule.
6. Juan, you also worked as screenwriter for popular and critically
acclaimed TV shows like "Herederos de una venganza". How was the
experience?
✒Awful. I don’t like writing for TV. It is too demanding a very little
rewarding. I hate to write following the desires of someone else. But I
learned a lot.
7. People envy your narrating skills there's no doubt in that, Where do
you get your information and ideas for your writings throughout your
journey?
✒The real world. Conversations. My family, my friends. Most of my
fiction comes from real experiences that are transformed into stories.
8.Tell us about your family, What does your family think of your
achievements?
✒They are very proud. Most of them are characters in my books and there
is a sensation in the family that, although my version is not “the
truth” it is enlightening and healing to read those versions of our
lives.
9. Do you hear from your readers much? What kinds of things do they
say?
✒A lot. Through social media you get instant feedback. For praise to
insult, confessions and proposals of any kind.
10. If time allows Are You planning to visit India once again say in
near future? What was the most surprising experiences you came across
in this visit?
✒I would love to come back to India (and to Assam) in the near future
and I am already working on that.
The most surprising experience was to go back to all the places I have
visited 5 years ago in India and see how much the country and myself
have changed. My experience on India this time was absolutely
different.
